Important information about casual employment

Casual employment is not regular or ongoing and subject to change. A casual employee is usually paid a higher hourly or daily rate because of this irregularity and the fact they are not entitled to annual leave or carer’s leave. An employer can dismiss a casual employee on very short notice.

If a casual employee has been working for an employer for more than 12 months, they can request a conversion to permanent employment.
