Even if you’re not legally required to report under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) (the Act), clients and supply partners increasingly want to see a modern slavery policy in place before they enter into contracts with you. Having a modern slavery policy shows you’re committed to ethical sourcing, human rights, and good governance, all the while future-proofing your business as you scale.

Instructions for use

We recommend you take the following steps :

1. Finalise this policy (it is an editable word document) where prompted by the red text [Tip: keep a master copy and use “save as” to create your customised versions];

2. Create a dedicated web page (called “Modern Slavery Policy”) that is accessible without requiring a login or user registration and that is not in the navigation bar and copy the wording from the Modern Slavery policy to the page.

3. Add links to the footer of every page to “Modern Slavery Policy”

4. Link to the Modern Slavery policy where relevant on your website, in any client or team information (eg in privacy policy or any forms etc.);

5. Test links and responsiveness; and

6. Keep your Modern Slavery policy updated – set a reminder to review at least once a year or whenever your business practices change (eg you start using a new tool or process) and amend the “Last Updated” part at the end of the policy after each review.
